If I begin with this approach, I’m addressing not only deep emotional and energetic karmas that you’re carrying but also spelling out what your soul intends for your human life.
Knowing that information and having your unique experience validated can change your life. My take on this is that if you know with absolute certainty that there’s nothing wrong with you, you can stop holding yourself back and do and be what matters to you most.
And, if you’re living out your soul’s intentions and learning through experience as you go (what we’re all doing here), then there’s nothing wrong with you.

Below is the 4-step process of karmic analysis I teach in Evolutionary Astrology Basics classes (stay tuned for another Basics I class to start in September) and use in my work.
- Pluto: The empowerment journey your soul has set out for you. You have to do this (Pluto by house, sign, and aspect) to make life feel meaningful, but doing it will bring up deep emotions, perhaps including fear and anger, stored in your unconscious from many of your soul’s lives. This is because the emotional records of your many lifetimes are now stored in your unconscious, which connects you across time to all of your soul’s various lives. The empowerment journey of Pluto tells me what hurts the most, what you fear the most, what you regret and feel guilty or shameful about the most.
- The South Node of the Moon (SN): What kinds of family environments your soul plops you into in many lives. Contracts between your souls form your human family, and the SN indicates the basis of many of those contracts. As it’s your conditioning from day 1 over and over again, it becomes a lens through which you will see the world. You’ll make assumptions that the world and others should conform to this symbolism, and you’ll retreat here when stressed and challenged. It’s habit and conditioning, after all.
- The SN ruler by sign: Your role in many lives – how you show up including special interests, skills, and talents. It describes who you think you are based in many lifetimes of pursuing certain interests and fulfilling certain roles. You’ll expect to be treated in this way, and reveals blind spots about who you believe you are versus who you could be.
- The North Node of the Moon (NN): What’s been left out or not done in healthy ways in many lifetimes. As the SN shows what you’re accustomed to and what your family modeled for you, the NN is the opposite thing the souls of your family agreed not to show you but that you need to learn and integrate. The NN shows us what you don’t want to do, who you don’t want to be, and also represents unfounded prejudices that you might use to keep you from exploring this opposite to the comfort zone of your SN.

It’s a different way of looking at a chart than you’ll normally learn in astrology, but it also opens the door to the deepest level of understanding you can have about yourself.
